About Us

We warmly welcome you to the Sacred Heart Parish nestled at the foot of Mt Warning and along the banks of the majestic Tweed River. The Parish Administration Centre is located in Murwillumbah.
The Parish has been serving the Tweed district township of Murwillumbah and surrounding villages of Uki & Burringbar since 1889.

Acknowledgement of Country - We acknowledge the Bundjalung people who are the Traditional Owners of this land on which we gather and pray. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people past, present and emerging.

Parish Groups

Parish Finance Council:
The Parish Finance Council assists in advising the Parish Priest and the Parish Business Manager in exercising stewardship over the temporal goods of the church. They are there to assist in the resourcing of the various apostolic works that are conducted by the Sacred Heart Parish. This council meets the third Thursday of each month. Current members of the Parish Finance Council are Peter McDonald, Jim Grennan, Ray Daley, Kevin Twohill, Jennifer Wallace and Wayne Bartesko.

Parish Pastoral Council: 
The Parish Pastoral Council gathers to discuss and identify the various pastoral needs of the Parish – this Council meets on the first Thursday of each month to assist the Parish Priest with planning the various pastoral initiatives that take place in the parish. Music Ministry:
Provides organ, instrumental, choir and other vocal music for Parish Masses and Liturgies. New members always welcome: contact Beth Brooks 02 6672 3294

Family Groups:
The Family Group Movement was founded by Fr Peter McGrath, a Passionist Priest. The movement consists of a group of families who give mutual support to each other based on the love of Jesus Christ.
The Family Groups gather once a month on a social basis.

Faith Education:
State School Catechists – visit the various State Schools in the parish on a weekly basis to teach Catholic children the Catholic faith. The catechists also prepare these children for the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Penance, and First Holy Communion.
Baptismal Preparation Team – meets on the second Tuesday of each month to prepare the parents and godparents whose children will be baptised in the near future. This preparation evening is held in the Parish Admin Centre. Further details please contact the Parish Office.
RCIA Team – journeys with those who are asking about the Catholic Faith and are looking at the possibility in joining the Catholic Church. The process is one that is adaptable to the needs of those who are enquiring. These people gather once a fortnight to explore some aspect of the Catholic faith.
